| Salmond: Back my Budget or I will seek election
Last night one senior Labour MP branded the First Minister's ultimatum as "grandstanding", claiming his threat to quit was only made in the full knowledge that sufficient support for the Budget plans had already been gained from Opposition groups. Tom Harris, Glasgow South MP, told The Herald: "This is cynical grandstanding by Alex Salmond. He's already done a deal with the Tories, it is all just an empty threat." However, the SNP government claimed discussions on the support of Conservatives, Greens and independent MSP Margo MacDonald were "ongoing". But the SNP, with 47 votes, is confident that it can count on their support to reach the minimum 65 votes it needs for a majority. Part of the deal-making process was an exchange of letters yesterday in which the SNP's junior justice minister, Fergus Ewing, spelled out to Tory justice spokesman Bill Aitken how he intends to meet the Conservative demands on drugs policy.
Scavenging for Superdelegates
As we went to bed last night, the juicy New York Times headline "Black Leader, a Clinton Ally, Tilts to Obama" tucked us in. The story explained the soon-to-be defection of Georgia Rep. John Lewis from Hillary Clinton's camp to Barack Obama's. Lewis is a superdelegate and a civil rights leader whose district voted overwhelmingly for Barack Obama in Georgia's Super Tuesday primary. If he officially defected, his change of heart was thought to be a bellwhether for all of Clinton's superdelegates whose districts voted for Obama. The Times reported that Lewis "said Thursday night that he planned to cast his vote as a superdelegate for Senator Barack Obama in hopes of preventing a fight at the Democratic convention," but that Lewis was still weighing whether to officially endorse Obama. But after changing his mind on Clinton, he may be changing his mind on Obama.

Maybe have to go back to work. Not something I want my 89 year old mother doing...how about you? We are seeing a lot of the boomer having not put a lot back for retirement and in a recession enviroment a market loss could put off retriement for 5 to 8 years to make up for. It's better to have a plan and not need it then to need a plan and not have one... The best laid plans are not constructed under pressure... Do it now sit down with an advisor a CPA, CEP, CFP or a RFC and review assets and plan for the worst. and where do you want to be in 5 year or 10 year or in retirement. Robert Arnold - CEPWausau, WIThanks for all the advice, Robert.J WHAT DO YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT? (2/12/08) OK, it's one of those weeks when I really have no idea what to talk about.

AMERICA'S CUP: Swiss and American clubs continue to battle over next ...
New York Supreme Court Judge Herman Cahn ruled in December that Alinghi, the sailing syndicate that represents SNG, must face a boat from Golden Gate YC in 10 months. Judge Cahn invalidated an earlier challenge from a Spanish yacht club that the Americans had argued was a puppet organization formed expressly to give Alinghi unprecedented and unfair control of an America's Cup that the Swiss had planned for 2009. It didn't help the Swiss cause when officials from that Spanish club amiably admitted that they were just a legal fiction that would let SNG control the event and keep the money it brings in Valencia, Spain, where Alinghi successfully defended the cup last July. Cahn ruled last month that the Spanish club didn't meet the standards of the 1887 Deed of Gift that governs America's Cup competition.
Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition)
"From director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg comes a thrilling battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons. When their epic struggle comes to Earth, all that stands between the evil Decepticons and ultimate power is a clue held by Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf)." "Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition)" is rated PG-13. The Movie: I've been a fan of Transformers as long as they've been around. I bought the original G1 toys. I read all the Marvel Comics. I watched the cartoons. I saw the animated movie. I bought the soundtrack. I have "The Touch." So it was with a mixture of eager anticipation and dread that I awaited the live action "Transformers" movie. I was glad to hear that Steven Spielberg was involved, but I was a bit worried about Michael Bay's storytelling abilities.
